Douloufakis winery is a small - medium winery located in Dafnes, a village just south of the city of Heraklion on the island of Crete, Greece. The tradition and history of the Douloufakis family in vineyard cultivation and wine production begins in 1930. Nowadays, Nikos Douloufakis is the wine maker, who belongs to the third generation of the family. He is following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by taking charge of the family business, but hes adding a modern twist to the ancient practice. Nikos Douloufakis holds a diploma in viticulture from the Scuola enologica di Alba wine school in the Piedmont region of Italy. As a consequence, he is very influenced by the Italian method of wine craft. So, by using cutting-edge equipment and employing the latest vineyard management techniques, hes able to produce wines of a higher quality than in the past. The winery produces 350.000 bottles annually.
Mr. Nikos Douloufakis says “Im following the family tradition because much like my grandfather Dimitris, I am passionate about innovation”, and he adds “Back in the 1930s, he was one of the first winemakers on the island to manage his vineyard in a professional way. By combining traditional and innovative techniques in my work, Im honoring his legacy.”
