Stellenbosch - V ITI CULTURE :The Lanzerac Chardonnay 2017 was sourced from five different vineyard blocks: D5, L11, L12, J2and J7 from Lanzerac and Jonkersdrift in the Jonkershoek Valley. The vines age vary from 22 to 25 years and consist of different clones to add complexity to the wine. The blocks are mainly fromdeep sandy soils and cover an area of 4,82 hectares. The 5 blocks have an altitude of 166m to 375m above sea level. All pruning and harvestingis done by hand to ensure that only healthy and fully ripe grapes reach the cellar.
V I NI IC ATION :The grape bunches are transported to the cellar in bins where they are hand sorted before beingdestemmed and crushed. The mash is cooled to 15°C before pressing. The juice is allowed 48hours to settle before racking off the lees. 70% of the Chardonnay is fermented in 300 liter Burgundy styled oak barrels and 30% is fermented in stainless steel tanks. A combination of new,2nd, 3rd and 4th fill barrels are used to ensure the best preservation of fruit. Each vineyard blockis treated differently with different yeast regimes and fermentation processes. Batonage is doneevery week for approximately 7 - 8 months after which the Chardonnay is blended and preparedfor bottling. C E L L AR M AS T E R S COMMENTS: A spicy fruit-bomb wine with lashings of ginger biscuit aromas overlaying soft cooked apples with caramel and cream, this is a wine which is jam-packed with flavor. A soft buttery mouthful oftropical fruits such as mangoes, pineapples and bananas, edged wit toasty oak is balanced bygood acidity and finishes with a toffee-cream tail. F O O D SUGGESTIONS :This full-bodied, just-dry wine is the ideal partner for spicy food such as a fruity Cape Malay chicken curry. A classic Korma or seafood Biriyani should also work really well.

This Left Bank Blend”, made from 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot, was matured in a combination of new and 2nd fill 300 litre French oak barrels for a period of 20 months. The 4 varietals were individually fermented and matured before careful blending and bottling.
CELLAR MASTER'S COMMENTS:
The Lanzerac Le Général is a limited barrel selection of the best red wine of the 2015 vintage. This full-bodied Cabernet-based blend announces vanilla and nutmeg spice before a flood of dark berries, cooked plums and blackcurrants assail the palate. Dark chocolate and hints of smoke is supported by sturdy smooth tannins and an endless finish.
The 2015 vintage can be enjoyed now, but also has the potential to mature over a five to ten year period.
Enjoy this wine with an herb and pepper crusted rib of beef, braised lamb shoulder with fennel and orange or a chocolate collaboration dessert with chilled fondant, cocoa sorbet, Caramelia aero, white chocolate mousse and cherries.
