Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend 2018

Stellenbosch - WINEMAKER:                  Abrie Beeslaar      VARIETALS:                     Pinotage 37%, Cabernet Sauvignon 36 %,                                            Merlot 25 %, Cabernet Franc 2% ORIGIN:                            Stellenbosch CLIMATE:                          A very dry and hot growing season which resulted in lower yields. AGE OF VINES: 5 to 30 Years IRRIGATION:                    Supplementary YIELD:                                 7.0 Tons per hectare – 4550 lit./ha VINIFICATION:                3 to 5 days on skins in open fermenters at                                            28 °C cap punched manually every 2 hours. MATURATION: 12 – 14 Months in 2nd and 3rd fill 225 lit.                                            French Nevers barrels. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:            A deep ruby red colour, with notes of blackcurrant, tea leaves and vanilla spice on the nose, which follows through to the palate. A well-balanced structure with fresh acidity and dry appetizing finish. This wine will keep developing in the bottle for the next 7 -10 years. FOOD SUGGESTION:                     Chill it down for a refreshing summer drink with seafood or serve at room temperature with meat or Italian style dishes.

Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage Rose 2019

Coastal Region - WINEMAKER: Abrie Beeslaar VARIEALS: 100% Pinotage CLIMATE: A dry summer with warm days, and consistently cool nights that helped for good ripening. SOIL: A mixture of decomposed granite, Hutton, Clovelly and sandy soils. YIELD: ± 6.0 tons/ha VINIFICATION: The grapes were crushed and immediately pressed to prevent too much colour extraction and fermented dry @ 13˚C. DESCRIPTION: A delicate salmon pink colour. The nose is elegant and floral, with notes of strawberry and raspberry, and hints of granadilla and pineapple. These flavours follow through to the palate which is beautifully balanced, the succulent fruit and refreshing acidity make this wine perfect to enjoy as an aperitif. FOOD SUGGESTION: A good ‘food pairing’ Rose. Perfect with anything from the sea, salad, quiche and the slight hint of sweetness on the finish lends itself to pair well with spicy dishes. GENERAL: Staying with the Kanonkop philosophy, this wine is a full bodied food wine. Add a bit of “ice for spice”. Ideally served chilled between 8 - 10˚C.

Stellenbosch - WINEMAKER:                  Abrie Beeslaar      VARIETALS:                      Cabernet Sauvignon 74%, Cabernet Franc 9%,                                                 Merlot 17%. CLIMATE:                          A very windy season, with rains in February. AGE OF VINES: On average 24 years SOIL:                                    Decomposed granite, Hutton and Clovelly soils. TRELLIS OF VINES:       5 Wire hedge YIELD:                                 4 tons/ha – 2750 lit./ha VINIFICATION:                5 days on skins in open fermenters @ 29 °C – cap                                                 punched manually every 2nd hour. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:     Layers of black fruit, perfume and cedar wood creates complex nose and palate also offering cigar box and vanilla tobacco. This blend offers a more integrated and complex profile than its single Cabernet Sauvignon counterpart. The acid, alcohol and integrated oak provides a balance and assures fantastic ageing potential.  With some patience you will be rewarded with a gem. MATURATION: 24 months in new 225 lit. French Nevers –                                                 medium toasted. Kanonkop Pinotage 2017

Stellenbosch - Bright ruby-red hues. A textbook Stellenbosch Pinotage with aromatic and spicy aromas of mulberry, raspberry and cinnamon. Muscular, well integrated tannins add great structure. Flavours of bramble, violets, plums and black berries are balanced by scented new oak. An elegant wine with savoury notes on the lengthy finish, and a lifting underlying freshness.

MATURATION:                 Matured for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French                                                 Oak  PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:             A deep purple-red colour, with a bright rim. This Pinotage offers notes of raspberry, strawberry and red cherry, which is balanced by characteristics of sweet spice, plum, red currant, and supple tannins. FOOD SUGGESTION:            BBQ Red Meat or Chicken, Pastas, and spicy Asian style dishes.

Kanonkop Kadette Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Stellenbosch - Classic varietal character with typical aromas of blackcurrants, pencil shavings and freshly cut herbs. A well-rounded wine showing great accessibility with a juicy fruit core and fresh acidity. The tannins add a grainy texture, and the wine lingers on the finish with beautiful flavours of blue berries and subtle oak spice.

Stellenbosch - WINEMAKER:                  Abrie Beeslaar      VARIETALS:                      100% Pinotage CLIMATE:                          A very challenging vintage with hot and dry conditions. AGE OF VINES: 64 years old bush vines. SOIL:                                  Decomposed granite and Hutton soils. YIELD:                                 2.8 tons/ha VINIFICATION:                Fermentation took place in open concrete fermenters. Cap was punched manually every 2 hours and the juice drawn off the skins after 3.5 days. AGING POTENTIAL: 20 - 25 Years PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:     A dense, full and rich wine filled with perfume an red fruit with a hint of spice adding to its complexity. The palate is structured and powerful, with ripe red fruits, black plums, and dark chocolate. The tannins are grainy and mouth-filling, with a dry appetizing finish. MATURATION: Matured for 18 months in 100% new 225 lit. French Nevers barrels, primarily Vicard. FOOD SUGGESTION: Red meat or spicy Asian style dishes.
