The “Weingut Albert Gälweiler GbR” is a family owned winery founded in 1834, which lies in the German Nahe wine region, located in the small picturesque village St. Katharinen. It is currently run by brothers Andreas Gälweiler, enologist and winemaker, and Dr. Leo Gälweiler, agro-biologist.
They cultivate vines on 25 ha, focusing on white wines and red Pinot varieties. The main grape varieties are Riesling, Pinot gris, Pinot blanc, Pinot noir, Pinot précoce, Rivaner, Scheurebe and Sauvignon blanc.
Grape production, vinification and embottling are completely in the hands of the winery, resulting exclusively in estate bottled wines. More than 50% of the grapes are picked by hand, mainly carried out in a two step process: pre-harvest and the final grape picking for optimal quality after an additional grape maturation period. The vinification in oak barrels (225 l, 600 l, 1200 l) and steel tanks using up-to-date technology occurs in consideration with the valuable intrinsic natural aromes and ingredients and the structure of the wines. We envisage to produce appealing, expressive wines which are clear and typical, with pleasant body and complexity.
