They say that good things come in threes – and it seems that wine vintages are no exception! 2008 was dazzling, 2009 outstanding, and now 2010 is turning out to be delightful too. Mother Nature has been feeling kind this year: the Gironde region experienced one of the driest seasons since records began, giving the grapes ample time to reach full maturity, while cooler nights towards the end of the season helped maintain a good level of acidity.
The easterly winds helped too, by sweeping away excess moisture, leaving the grapes sound and healthy.
Good concentration is the key feature in 2010 – both of fruit and freshness, despite high alcohol levels. High acidity and exceptionally fine tannins give 2010’s wines an enviable balance, which in turn gives an excellent ageing potential.
THE TASTING NOTES
The colour is so deep and dense it is almost opaque. The nose is expansive, complex and elegant with vibrant black fruit aromas alongside praline and hints of mahogany, while the palate is full and luscious, its richness balancing beautifully with a vein of elegant minerality. Well-structured tannins give a velvety, succulent mouthfeel.
The Cabernet Franc grapes have produced a wine of beauty, style and elegance, with excellent aging potential.
FOOD/WINE PAIRINGS : Terrine of pheasant with foie gras, good quality roast poultry, loin of veal in jus, rack of lamb, entrecote Bordelaise, mature cheeses – and surprisingly good with chocolate desserts!
AGING POTENTIAL : Ready to enjoy straight away, or can be laid down away from direct light, for 8-20 years, according to individual tastes.
SERVE : at 17°C after aerating for 2 hours.

Vinification: Traditional methods, cold maceration prior to fermentation.
Yield : 49 hectolitres/hectares.
Blend : 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc

The Bordeaux region is a veritable mosaic of terroirs. Soils types vary enormously, often containing gravel and rounded pebbles deposited by watercourses over the years.The sand and chalk content of the soil allows it to heat up rapidly during the day, and retain heat during the cooler nights; thus the vines do not suffer extremes of temperature. The complex mix of terrains – not unlike a “geological chequerboard” – yields rich and complex wines.
Temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Merlot is cold-macerated before fermentation to extract colour and fruity flavours. This process gives the desired aromatic concentration and good, persistent flavour over time. Fermentation lasts about 15 days. The process of extraction is carefully monitored to reach the desired result: good concentration on the palate with supple, silky tannins and excellent length of flavour. The blend consists predominantly of Merlot.

“My aim was to produce a modern, intense Merlot for the international market,with a distinctly fruity flavour. I find that a high proportion of Merlot is imperative, while the vinification process was specially tailored to produce the rounded, full-bodied wine our export customers expect.”
Tasting Notes A smooth, fruit-filled wine
Appearance: Deep garnet in colour, bright and vivid.
Nose: Intense red and black fruits, fresh fruit, blackcurrants with a hint of menthol.
Palate: Concentrated and rounded, with a smooth, powerful tannic structure. Excellent length of flavour.
