"Wines of Origin"

For most wine growing countries and producers authentic wines which embody regional growing conditions as well as a specific wine profile are playing a crucial role in their marketing. The new subject matter provides the producers with the opportunity to present area specific wines of origin.

Trade visitors of ProWein 2012 will be able to gain a comprehensive overview of the international display of established wines on offer.

Requirements:

  • products are based on a wine of origin concept or wines correspond to traditional wine profiles of the relevant country

  • wines share the same name as the area of origin, region, geographical position or location which is normally smaller than a member state

  • wines owe their quality and character to the prevailing geographic and climactic conditions as well as other natural and human influences at the location

  • grapes must originate exclusively from the relevant location

  • production must take place in the country of origin of the grapes

  • wines are produced exclusively using grapes of the " Vitis vinifera" variety

    Wines of Origin - categories:

    1. White wines
    2. Red wines
    3. Rosé wines

    General conditions:

  • only wines from exhibitors of ProWein 2012
  • wines and sparkling wines of all vintages
  • wines of geographical origin smaller than a state or defined as wine of origin
  • grapes must originate exclusively (ie 100 percent) from the relevant region
  • production must take place in the country of origin of grapes
  • varietal and cuvée wines (the latter are subject to observing the legal requirements for a wine of origin)

    Samples per company (exhibitors of ProWein 2012)

    - vineyard: 2 samples
    - wine cellar / cooperatives: 4 samples
    - 2 samples per producer represented (up to a maximum of 10 samples per importer / wholesaler)

    Please submit each of 12 bottles of wine.

    Modalities:

    To prevent errors from occurring in the product designations and the correct production of the necessary wine designations, we request you to enter your product data via the web-pass that is available on the Internet. You can find the web-pass at: www.webpass-online.com. It is easy to use and does not take much time to complete. You register your organisation first and you are then issued a password.

    For this reason, please remember: Only those wines for which a form has been completed are permitted. Please register on this page and save the data that you have entered. Please also make a note of your password for future tasting events. For the sending of the samples, a printed form is to be enclosed with the shipment of every wine.

    Excluded are: Entries which we receive after the closing date for submissions, and wines which are submitted without the electronic web-pass registration. These are not permitted to take part in the tasting. Samples which are sent to us remain in the ownership of the Meininger Verlag GmbH.
